The Albanese Government continues to invest in local priority projects in the Yass Valley, with $422,660 flowing to the Yass Netball Association for court upgrades at Joe O'Connor Park.
Delivered through the $200 million Play Our Way Program, the funding will support resurfacing of the top level courts, additional flood lighting, and the installation of a safety ramp to the lower-level courts.
These improvements are something long called for by the Yass community, and will support boosting player safety and participation.
This funding is part of $55.6 million flowing to 124 organisations under Stream 2 of the Play Our Way Program – which is designed to remove barriers, address discrimination and promote equality for women and girls to participate in sport and physical activity.
This includes women and girls who have a disability, are First Nations people or from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
The Yass Netball Association is one of the 166 groups around the nation selected to receive Play Our Way funding for new or modified facilities for women and girls across a range of sports.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Sport, Anika Wells:
“Play Our Way is all about creating greater opportunities for women and girls to have an equal chance to get the fun, satisfaction and health benefits sport offers.
“The huge response to the grants, and the range of great project ideas, show that Australian communities want to be more supportive of women and girls.”
Quotes attributable to the Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain:
“Yass has a huge netball community and we want to see that grow, which is why ensuring the facilities at Joe O’Connor Park are safe and fit-for-purpose is incredibly important.
“Unfortunately, the 2016 court upgrades haven’t stood the test of time, which is why I’m so proud to deliver $422,660 to the Yass Netball Association for repairs to the top courts.
“This investment will also support upgrades to lighting, making weeknight training safer for all ages, and providing more options to run social and competition games year-round.”
