The Albanese and Minns Labor Governments continue to improve road safety across the Bega Valley, with $2.1 million worth of upgrades on the Princes Highway at Pambula to begin from Tuesday 28 January 2025.

Funded through the Road Safety Program, the works will reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes on this road network, while improving travel times.

The improvements respond to significant community feedback about road safety concerns in the area, and include:

  • installing a dedicated left turn lane into Acacia Ponds Village from the Princes Highway
  • improving left turn line marking on the approach to Stringybark Place
  • improving left and right turn line marking on the approach to Green Point Road
  • installing widened centre line
  • installing roadside safety barriers.

Work will be carried out on the Princes Highway at Pambula from about 300 metres north of Stringybark Place to about 350 metres south of Green Point Road and is expected to take about four months to complete.

The funding provided for these improvements under the Australian Government’s Road Safety Program is part an overall investment of $518.3 million by the Australian and NSW governments from 2023-2024 to 2025-2026, to improve the safety of the state’s road network.

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain said:

“Regional NSW is home to one-third of the NSW population, but accounts for nearly two thirds of road fatalities in the state.

“This significant investment to deliver these much-needed upgrades for the Princes Highway at Pambula has never been more important, with 2024 recorded as one of the deadliest years on our roads.

“We are committed to reducing road trauma and making journeys safer for all who live in and travel through regional NSW.

“I’m proud to be delivering this important funding for Eden-Monaro.”

State Member for Bega Dr Michael Holland said:

“We are listening to the community and this work is being delivered in response to significant feedback from Acacia Ponds Village residents and visitors about numerous near-miss incidents.

“We’ve heard the challenges faced to safely navigate the left turn into the village due to high traffic speeds and heavy vehicle volumes on the Princes Highway.

"We want everyone on our roads to make it to their destinations and return home safely and this investment is a crucial step toward making that a reality.”
