OPENING OF THE SHIBETSU JAPANESE GARDENS

The Albanese Government is partnering with Goulburn Mulwaree Council to deliver key local projects like the Shibetsu Japanese Gardens at Victoria Park.

Officially unveiled this week, the project involved the design and construction of an ornamental garden and picnic lawn in the Shibetsu Japanese Gardens.

The project also involved the removal of old trees from the proposed picnic area, the installation of a recycled water sprinkler/irrigation system, construction of pebbled pathway and installation of seating and other infrastructure.

The project will strengthen Goulburn’s sister-city relationship with the city of Shibetsu in Japan, and increase tourism and community use of the gardens.

The Albanese Government has provided $250,000 in funding towards to project, with the NSW Government contributing $450,000 and the Goulburn Mulwaree Council providing the remaining $252,388.

The project was funded under the $1.38 billion Building Better Regions Programme, and supported three jobs during construction, and created another two ongoing jobs.
