MAKING CANDELO-BEGA ROAD SAFER

The Albanese Government continues to invest in targeted road improvements across Eden-Monaro, with $607,175 flowing to Bega Valley Shire Council to support upgrades on Candelo-Bega Road outside of Kameruka.

Set to begin in February 2025, works will include upgrades to the road surface, installation of safety barriers and new reflective road markers, and improvements to line marking.

The upgrades, funded through the Albanese Government’s Road Black Spot Program, will enhance the safety of Candelo-Bega Road for all users.

They will also facilitate smoother transportation of goods and benefit various sectors, including agriculture, tourism, and other small businesses – with Candelo-Bega Road a key link to the Princes Highway.

This is one of many projects being delivered in partnership with Bega Valley Shire Council, as part of the Government’s commitment to improving the safety of local road networks in Eden-Monaro.

More than $10.7 million is also flowing to Council under the Government’s Roads to Recovery Program over the next five years – a boost of over $3.4 million thanks to the Albanese Government.

Nationally, the Roads to Recovery program is progressively increasing from $500 million to $1 billion per year, the Black Spot Program is increasing to $150 million per year, and $50 million has been added to the new $200 million per year Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.

Quotes attributable to Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain MP:

“That’s why we’ve significantly increased the funding available to Bega Valley Shire Council through our Roads to Recovery Program, and why I’m also pleased to deliver over $607,000 towards these critical safety upgrades on Candelo Bega Road.

“Improving Candelo Bega Road is something locals have long called for, and securing this funding is part of my commitment to supporting the delivery of local priority projects that will have a lasting impact in our community.”

“We welcome this $607,175 from the Australian Government, which will ensure that we can deliver a number of improvements on Candelo-Bega Road – making it safer for locals, tourists and our heavy vehicles to get around.”
