An Albanese Labor Government will provide $2.5 million for the new Googong Sport and Recreation Club.

Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain announced the commitment at a meeting with members of the sports club board, the Googong Hogs, the Queanbeyan Whites and the Googong Residents Association on Tuesday afternoon.

“The Googong Sports and Recreation club will be of huge benefit to our community,” McBain said.

“It will be a fantastic modern sports facility and clubhouse, a social hub and an events space. Plans include function and meeting rooms, bar, bistro and café facilities, as well as change rooms and spectator amenities covering a wide range of junior and senior sports - netball, AFL, soccer, rugby, hockey and others.

“The vision for this sports precinct has been sustained by this ambitious community for many years now. I’ve met with the board and community members countless times to provide my ongoing support and I am delighted to give the project the financial boost it needs to get things moving.

“I know how important our sporting teams are within our communities, they bring men, women and children together and are key to building a real sense of community in our regions.

“This precinct will be the sporting hub for this rapidly growing area for many years into the future.”

If elected, an Albanese Labor Government will provide the $2.5 million to the Googong Sports and Recreation Club which is a not-for-profit community body. These funds will help the club to secure the additional funds needed to complete the works, which is expected to cost around $8 million.
