KRISTY MCBAIN MP
MEMBER FOR EDEN-MONARO
Four local projects will be delivered in Eden-Monaro thanks to nearly $8 million in funding as part of Round Three of the Albanese Government’s flagship $1 billion Disaster Ready Fund (DRF).
To make communities more resilient to severe weather events, the Albanese Government is providing $200 million in funding to support 96 projects across Australia as part of DRF Round 3.
Combined with contributions from states, territories and other partners, total funding for these projects will total almost $350 million.
Projects in Eden-Monaro include:
- $1.08 million – Building RediCommunities among First Nations communities in Bega Valley, Mehi and Stanley.
- $6.02 million – Scaling Indigenous-led Cultural Burning across high-risk sites in the Bega Valley and SE Queensland to reduce bushfire impacts and build community resilience.
- $175,000 – Integrating cultural land management practices, such as cultural burning, into disaster readiness frameworks along Bega Valley’s coastal and urban fringes.
- $552,442 – Finalising a network of Havens in Eurobodalla to protect vulnerable people during bushfires and heatwaves.
These projects are jointly funded, with contributions from partners including Australian Red Cross Society, Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation, Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council, and Southcoast Health and Sustainability Alliance (SHASA).
The full list of successful projects supported by DRF Round Three is available at Disaster Ready Fund.
