The Albanese Labor Government’s additional investment of $27.1 million into the Headspace Early Career Program (ECP) has been instrumental in enhancing mental health support for young Australians in regional areas, including Goulburn and the Southern Tablelands.

Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Emma McBride and Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, visited headspace Goulburn last week to see how the service was helping young people across the Goulburn Mulwaree region first-hand.

The $27.1 million investment in the ECP is providing up to 1,500 student and 150 graduate placements across the headspace network by December 2026, ensuring services meet growing demand.

This initiative, along with the Government’s ongoing commitment to funding through Coordinare Primary Health Network and Grand Pacific Health Ltd, guarantees young Australians can access the mental health care they need, when and where they need it.

The Albanese Government has invested $320 million to grow and expand the headspace network across the country. Currently there are 161 headspace services operating across the country, with commitments to grow the network to 173 by 2025-26.

Headspace Goulburn provides free care in mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and drug use, and work and study support for those aged 12 to 25.

With convenient access, including free two-hour parking and disability access at the front, as well as telehealth options, young people can easily get the care they need.

Located at 13-17 Verner Street, headspace Goulburn operates from 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays, except for Thursdays when it’s open from 11am to 7pm.

Clients can walk in or call 02 4824 4944 for support.

For additional national support, eheadspace is available online or via phone at 1800 650 890.

Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister McBride:

“Early intervention is the key to reducing the length and severity of mental ill-health, so it’s important to reach out to headspace if required.

“At headspace Goulburn you will find highly trained people who understand the complex pressures on today’s youth and can provide treatment and support.

Quotes attributable to Minister McBain:

“Delivering high-quality services in regional areas is about more than just health care – it’s about ensuring equal opportunity for all Australians, and the Albanese Government is leading the way.

“We’re delivering for regional Australia by ensuring that essential services like Headspace Goulburn are there for young people when they need them most.”
