More than $2.2 million is being invested to fund much needed flood mitigation in Bungendore following catastrophic floods in 2022.

In response the record-breaking flooding across much of NSW in 2022, the Albanese Government provided $40 million towards the NSW Flood Recovery and Resilience Grant Program.

Under this round, $2,250,000 will be provided to Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council to construct an overflow channel on Turallo Creek in Bungendore.

This will allow floodwaters to bypass the Tarago Road Bridge crossing during flood events, as well as directing flood waters away from properties in the Bungendore town centre.

This is the second round of funding provided by the Albanese Government and administered by the NSW Government under the program, following last year’s allocation of over $20 million to 19 projects.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain:

“This project will significantly reduce the flood risk for Bungendore, ensuring better protection for residents, businesses, and infrastructure.

“We are supporting local governments to take the necessary steps to better protect the community and reduce the impacts of the next big flood.

“Eden-Monaro has endured more than its fair share of natural disasters and I’m proud to be delivering this funding to make Bungendore safer.

Quotes attributable to NSW Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education and Member for Monaro Steve Whan:

“This announcement is a welcome improvement to flood safety for Bungendore. Three levels of Government have worked together on this project.

“Mayor Kenrick Winchester and council’s General Manager have been talking to myself and Kristy McBain for some time on ensuring this project can be delivered, I am very pleased it can now get underway and thank Kristy and the Federal Government for their assistance.”
