Additional funding is set to support new road safety projects across Eden-Monaro, under the Australian Government’s Road Safety Program.
This funding boost for road safety upgrades in Eden-Monaro will ensure greater levels of safety at each project location, reducing the risk of crashes that cause fatal or serious injuries.
Among the projects are pedestrian infrastructure upgrades including wombat crossings to busy areas near various primary schools, as well as:
- $6,029,856 for upgrades along Tumbarumba Road
- $3,906,231 for upgrades along the Snowy Mountains Highway (between Tumut and Hume Highway)
- $3,782,916 for upgrades along the Snowy Mountains Highway, Adelong
The program will also upgrade 174 signalised intersections across NSW to enhance pedestrian safety.
These upgrades will include improving pedestrian crossings, installing additional signals, and adjusting left and right-turn signal phasing to provide greater protection for pedestrians while crossing. More information can be found here.
Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain:
“This funding will deliver major road safety upgrades across Eden-Monaro, with more than $50 million dollars in funding flowing to projects across the electorate in this round of funding alone.
“I’m so proud to be delivering this road safety funding and look forward to see the projects rolling out.”
Quotes attributable to Federal Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Senator Anthony Chisholm:
“Our over half a billion dollars’ worth of roads safety funding for NSW is all part of our collective commitment to significantly reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
“It’s critical that we continue to support safety projects in regional and metropolitan areas across the country as Australia’s road toll is far too high, with 2024 on track to be one of the deadliest years on our roads.
“The wider Road Safety Program forms part of the Albanese Government’s ongoing commitment to work with state and territory governments to fund the priority road safety works they identify.
“These projects won’t just improve safety, they will also support thousands of construction jobs across the state and build on the 49 projects already announced in late May.”
