The expansion of facilities at the new Cobargo basketball/netball court is a slam dunk for the Bega Valley, thanks to federal government grant funding.

The project is being delivered thanks to a $100,000 election commitment funded under the Investing in Our Communities Program and will make a real difference for Cobargo families.

The project will see the delivery of a carpark upgrade, which will provide improved access to the court facility and the Narira Park sportsground.

The works will include at least 28 new car parking spaces, including at least one accessible parking space, pavement repair, bitumen seal and line-marking – and are scheduled to be completed by June 2025.

Under this program, the Government is delivering community and sporting infrastructure, open space improvements and other community priorities nationwide intended to assist communities to build their strengths and improve liveability.

For more information on the program visit the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts website.

Quotes attributable to the Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain:

“I’m so proud to be delivering this community infrastructure upgrade for the Cobargo community.

“Since the court was opened last year, it’s been well used and loved by the community, and this project will add to its usability.

“Congratulations to the community for campaigning for this project – I can’t wait to see it delivered.”

Quotes attributable to Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick:

“Often important aspects of our facilities like parking get overlooked, this funding will allow us to complete the missing piece of the puzzle to support the recently improved recreation facilities in Cobargo”

“Without the funding provided by the Federal Government it is unlikely we would have been able to deliver this wonderful and important community project”
