An Albanese Labor Government will provide $90,000 for ground upgrades at JJ Connors Oval in Jindabyne.
Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain announced the commitment at a meeting with members from the Jindabyne Bushpigs Rugby Union Club on Tuesday morning.
“I have visited JJ Connors oval on a wet evening and have seen first-hand how desperately these ground upgrades are needed,” Kristy said.
“The Bushpigs have a hugely successful touch football competition in summer with kids as young as six years old getting out there and giving it a red hot go. They also have to battle with snow throughout winter when their main rugby season is at its peak.
“Right now, on rainy and snowy days, parents and supporters are forced to crowd into a small under-cover space to keep dry.
“This $90,000 commitment will go some of the way to providing more space on those days when the weather is less than ideal.
“The number of kids and adults playing rugby and cricket has increased over recent years, so we need to ensure our facilities accommodate the growing needs of the community.
“This $90,000 commitment is on top of the $20,000 Stronger Communities grant I provided to the Bushpigs earlier this year.
“I know how important our sporting teams are in bringing men, women and children together and building a sense of community. That’s why I am proud to make this commitment and show my continued support to the Jindabyne community.”
