A re-elected Labor Government will provide $3.1 million towards developing Cooma’s mountain biking trails into a world-class destination.
This election commitment will support the development of 54 kilometres of new trails and the construction of a large-scale asphalt pump track to suit all skill levels on bikes, skateboards and scooters – which will have the potential to host a world championship pump track event.
With a drive time from Canberra conducive to either day trips or overnight stays, Cooma is perfectly located to capitalise on an increasing take-up of mountain biking across the general population.
Cooma’s terrain, forest types, existing quality trails, and the trail’s proximity to the Cooma CBD make this project ripe for development.
Mountain biking provides significant social and economic benefits to communities – with a 2016 assessment of the project estimating it would inject more than $5.3 million into the local economy every year once complete.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
